Training Recovery
It is the time of year many get struck down with colds or flu. If you are training hard you won’t want to take forced breaks for coughs and heavy colds. It is therefore important to make sure you don’t neglect recovery.
This includes getting enough sleep, minimising stress, drinking at least 2 litres of water per day and good nutrition (i.e. plenty of protein, vitamin rich vegetables and good fats rather than sugar). High training load without recovery is known to have a negative effect on the immune system.
This should not discourage hard training but if you find yourself getting run down, feeling persistently tired or struggling to keep the exercise intensity up then it may be that you are not putting enough emphasis on the recovery.
